The city of Aligarh has a number of monuments, museums and religious places to visit. It is a historical city. The town falls in the area of Doab, which means a place between two rivers. There lived the ‘Kol’ tribe in this region in the beginning and the area was called kol. It came to be known in its present form after it was occupied by the British in 1803. Agra is one of the greatest of tourist attractions near Aligarh. It is the city of the Taj, one of the iconic monuments of love. The Taj Mahal is actually a mausoleum. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The monument is built in white marble and is a testimony of the architectural prowess of the masons and engineers who designed, built and created this poetry in-stone at Agra. It is a place of attraction for millions of tourists every year. Agra fort is also one of the major places of tourist attractions at Agra.

Fatehpur SikriThe famous town of Fatehpur Sikri is another heritage site near Aligarh. The place has a wonderful fort which was the residence of Mughal king Akbar for a few years before it was abandoned due to lack of water in the area. This fort at Sikri is famous for its huge entrance called ‘Buland Darwaza’. It is also famous for the Durgah of Sufi Saint Salim Chishti which is situated right inside the fort. People tie a thread of their prayer at the Durgah and untie the same when the prayer is accepted by god due to the magical blessings of Hazrat Salim Chishti. He is said to have given the boon to Akbar who was blessed by a son and as a token of his devotion to the saint established the city of Fatehpur Sikri.
The town is situated at a distance of 128 km from Aligarh and reachable within 2 h and 20 min via NH 509 and SH 39. Private buses, state transport buses, cars and taxis are available to reach the place.

Keoladeo Bird SanctuaryThe famous sanctuary is situated near Bharatpur in Rajasthan. This is one of the major tourist attractions due to the abundance of migratory birds who flock here in season. The place was once a private duck hunting ground of the royal family of Bharatpur. It was declared a bird sanctuary in 1964. It is also known as Keoladeo Ghana National Park after it was declared a National Reserve in 1982. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1984.
It is situated at a distance of 112 km via Mathura Bharatpur Road and SH 80. It is reachable in 2h 15 min by public and private transport of all types.
MathuraMathura is a world-famous tourist destination near Aligarh, especially for the religiously inclined people. The city is famous as the birth place of Lord Krishna. One of the attractions for the pilgrim is the Janambhumi temple of Mathura. Some of the famous places of interest at Mathura are Vishram Ghat, Dwarkadheesh Temple, Gita Mandir and the Government Museum. The city of Mathura is one of the most famous places of pilgrimage for Vaishnava sect of Hindus and those who worship lord Krishna.

The city of Vrindavan is situated to the north of Mathura on the River Yamuna. It carries the same sanctity for the pilgrims as Mathura. The town still has not attained the busy hustle and bustle of a major tourist place that takes away some of the attraction from it. It is still a little laid back and old world place that gives out a feeling of peace. The town is famous as a stage on which Lord Krishna carried all the activities of his young age including the famous romantic forays with the gops and gopikas. There are several famous shrines and Kunds in Vrindavan of which Braham Kund and Govinda Kund are highly sacred Kunds or tanks of Vrindavan.
It is situated at a distance of about 63 km from Aligarh on SH 80. It is reachable within 1 h 15 min easily by all the public and private transport of the area.

NoidaThe New Okhla Industrial Development Authority or what is popularly called NOIDA is an industrial area close to Aligarh. It has its own places of interest for the tourists. The place is the fastest developing area and the IT hub of UP. There are several places worth visiting in NOIDA. Film city is a wonderful tourist place. The city is the centre of the major TV channels like Zee, CNBC, NDTV, CNN-IBN etc. It is famous for being the biggest exhibition venue of Delhi/NCR. The place is home to north India’s biggest mall. It is also known for the Okhla bird sanctuary.
The place is easily connected with Aligarh at a distance of 119 km and reachable via the Yamuna Expressway within 1 h 30 min. Cars, buses, private taxis and tourist buses make a regular visit to the place.

DelhiThe capital of India is also close to Aligarh. Delhi is not only the capital of India for warranting a visit any time but also because it is a historical place where a lot of places are of great tourist attraction. Some places of a high tourist footfall are the Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar, India Gate, The Parliament House and the Rashtrapati Bhawan etc.
Delhi is readily connected from Aligarh. Trains run regularly to Delhi from Aligarh. Public and private buses, taxis and cars can make the journey of 140 km to reach Delhi within 2 hrs via the Yamuna Expressway.
